This page explains how to download a copy of the entire Access to Insight website in bulk and install it onto your hard disk for offline browsing.

The bulk download file is automatically kept up-to-date with the rest of the website, so whenever you download it you'll know you have the very latest version. It's a large file (about 9 Mb), so unless you have a fast Internet connection you'll have to be rather patient. Under typical dialup conditions, it may take about a half hour to download. If you're not sure how to download and uncompress "zip" files, please see "Downloading Files from Access to Insight".

Some features of the online version of the website (such as the search engine, some links to the ftp server, etc.) are not available in the offline edition. For details see "What's the difference between the 'bulk download' and the live Access to Insight website?"

Step 1.
Check to be sure you have at least 40Mb of free space available on your hard drive (about 9Mb for the file you download and about 30Mb for the uncompressed files). Create a new folder on your hard drive. Name it website (or some other convenient name of your own choosing).

Important: If you have previously installed the website onto your hard disk, be sure to delete your old version of the website before installing the new one. Otherwise, you will encounter broken links and other inconsistencies.

Step 2.
» Download the file "atibulk.zip" [About 9 Mb. Last updated on Tue 17 June 2003. Here's a list of recent changes to the atibulk.zip file.]

If you have trouble downloading the file, see the FAQ "I can't download files from your ftp server. What do I do?" for some suggestions.

Step 3.
Move "atibulk.zip" into your website folder.

Step 4.
Unzip "atibulk.zip". (If you don't know how to do this, see "Downloading Files from Access to Insight".) You do not have to worry about creating subfolders in your website folder; the un-zipping program takes care of all that.

Step 5.
Your website folder should contain two items: a folder named "html" and a file named "start". Using your web browser, open the file named "start". You may now navigate freely through your own personal copy of the website.
