Muta

Pali MO Hare Horner Punnaji Bodhi Rhys Davids (Mrs)Rhys Davids Thanissaro Walshe Woodward
muta sensing Hare the sensed Punnaji the sensed Rhys Davids (Mrs)Rhys Davids the sensed Walshe Woodward
Pali Text Society, Pali English Dictionary:

muta: thought, supposed, imagined (i.e. received by other vaguer sense imprssions than by sight and hearing) M I.3. Often in set diÂÂha suta muta what is seen, heard and thought (? more likely "felt," . . .cp. Nd2 298; diÂÂha=cakkhun¤, suta¸=sotena, muta¸=gh¤nena gh¤yita¸, jivh¤ya s¤yita¸, k¤yena phuÂÂa¸, and vi¾¾¤ta¸=manas¤, so that from the interpretation it follows that d.s.m.v. refer to the action (perception) of the 6 senses, where muta covers the 3 of taste, smell and touch, and vi¾¾¤ta the function of the manas) S I.186. Similarly the psychological analysis of the senses at D.III.232. Thus quite a main tenet of the old (popular) psychology.
